dc.description.abstract The phase differences between degrees-of-freedom in a flutter calculation are discussed. From the study of phase variations with airspeed in binary systems, a technique is evolved for identifying the essential degrees-of-freedom in a large-order flutter calculation. This technique can be combined with that from a previous report in order to represent the flutter condition in a large- order flutter calculation with an equivalent two-degree-of-freedom system. en_US
