dc.description.abstract By means of a Fourier analysis a function is derived which gives the minimum value of the integral ... for any function S(x) which has a continuous first derivative and given values at a number of discrete points. This minimal function suggests a method for the numerical evaluation of I from a graph or table of S(x). An example is constructed to illustrate the method and to give some indication of its accuracy. en_US
